NYC Bars and Clubs Worth the HYPE
By: Aneesha Mahapatra
New York City is the hotspot for having a good night out and an experience you’ll never forget. From rooftop bars to dingy basement clubs that are similar to a frat party, each place is unique in their own way. Depending on the days of the week, the spots can be a hit or miss. However, there are certain clubs and bars to explore that let you immerse yourself into a night of fun and mystery.
The Box
If you haven’t heard of The Box, then you are seriously missing out. Not only is this place iconic for its erotic and burlesque type shows, but it’s one of the hardest doors to get into. Going alone will give you the best luck to get in, otherwise it’s time to network and get to know people who are regulars. Inside is a two level club with a big stage on the first floor. This club is known for their performances which happen twice at night, 30 minutes apart. The aura and vibes here are immaculate, from its antique looking decoration to the loud, fun music. You’ll most likely bump into someone famous, and make sure to keep your phones off or you’ll get kicked out.
Note: The performances are not for the weak.
The Factory 380
Located in Kips Bay, this bar has the most fun drinks and the best atmosphere. The bartenders are equally as fun as the customers (maybe even more than) with their positive energy and bright smiles. While you’re at it, check out Club Sásta, a DJ band, one of the bartenders- Ruaidhri McManus- owns. They host in different bars of NYC and in the back room at The Factory, bringing a mix of beats to the dance floor.
Every Friday and Saturday, the bar is packed to the brim when DJ Story King Brent is in the house. He enjoys bringing classic hits from Hip Hop, EDM, House, Reggaeton, and Today’s Top 40’s adding his own mix to music and keeps the party going until 4 AM.
Their happy hour deals itself which includes $8 cocktails should entice you to go out and have a good night. Celebrate with sparklers, shots, and a great mood. When you go downstairs to the bathroom, make sure to stop and get a picture in front of their artsy walls. At The Factory 380, you’re bound to meet someone that will make you do things for the plot.
Paul’s Baby Grand
Ambiance is key when it comes to clubbing in New York City. Paul’s Cocktail Lounge gives you an experience that will make you want to go back. This spot is the place to make you feel like you’re in a movie. Dim lights, gorgeous decor, and older men is all you need to be the star of the show. Located in the Roxy Hotel, this baby club is a place to network, to dance, to spend money on expensive drinks. From early 2000s music to new, Paul’s has a way to make your night a memorable one. Many influencers and celebrities love to hang out at this spot so dress to impress and show up early because you will be waiting in line.
ACME
Remember the dingy basement club? ACME pretty much fits that criteria. However, think of it as a more luxurious dingy basement rather than a college frat party basement. Once you’re done with dinner and drinks at The Nines restaurant, head downstairs and continue to the party. ACME is a perfect spot on Thursdays after a horrible work day. Go to forget your trauma and meet a man who owns a house in the Hamptons. With fantastic music and great essence, this spot is one to rave about. Rumors have it that you’ll bump into some B-list celebrities who are more than willing to take you home.
Joyface
Have you ever been to a bar with a waterbed? This East Village bar takes you back to the 80s/90s with its eclectic music and vibes. You will want to get there early because the line tends to wrap around the block sometimes or you’ll get denied immediately. Although it’s quite small inside, there’s enough space to indulge in some fun and flirt with some interesting people. Bring your digital camera because every area of this bar has a sexy picture moment. Take a chance to dance all night with Paul Mescal, Dakota Johnson, and more celebrities you’re least likely to expect.
Little Sister Lounge
Also a very hard door to get into, but it is the hottest club in the city! This club is underground, literally. The doorman will probably make you cry, but just be nice and try to be as sober as possible. The interior is sexy and cave-like with cool light fixtures and a copper themed bar, but still keeps an upscale ambiance. You might run into a few VIP’s, so be fun and chill. Best way to get in is to know someone or to be on a list.
Wherever you end up on a night out in the city, remember to be respectful and kind, and to enjoy yourself. While some places are more difficult to get into, there are over 100+ bars/ clubs that you can find yourself in and try again the next night!
