The Ultimate Guide To Having a Miley Stewart Summer

By Natalie DeVito

Cue up You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home by none other than Hannah Montana and get ready to throw down a hoedown with the epidemic of the “Miley Stewart Summer”, where the season is full of pop and lock and polka dotting it. Where is back home, you may ask? For Miley, it’s Tennessee. But for you, it’s what you make it. Buckle up and saddle on for the best of both worlds, and remember “If you’re 5 or 82, this is something you can do.”

Looking to have your own Miley Stewart summer? Here's how:

#1. Dress Comfortably!

The key to a simple summer is what you wear. Dress in what makes you comfortable and what feels like you. Specifically denims, flannels, big belts, and anything resembling a picnic blanket. Throw in a long skirt and mixed metals somewhere and you’ve kicked your chic Miley Stewart Summer into high gear. Simple garments and statement elements partnered together will have you conquering this summer in no time.

#2. Thrift a Pair of Overalls

It would be doing the Miley Stewart Summer a disservice if there were no ripped up, dirty, and perhaps hand-me-down overalls involved. Go to your local thrift store, flea market, or even rummage through friends or families closets to find the perfect pair to spend your summer in. You can do anything in your overall. Paint, lay in the grass, or have a dance party!

#3. Surround Yourself with Those You Love

This summer is meant to be simple, and rather humble. It's meant for picking the people you enjoy being bored with. The people you can listen to crickets roar outside with, and the people who will remind you of the happiest parts of being a kid. Nostalgia is along for the ride this summer, so learn to embrace it with open arms.

#4.  Good Pair of Cowgirl Boots… Perhaps a Straw Hat

An obvious essential adjacent to having a Miley Stewart Summer is finding those treasured pair of cowgirl boots perhaps partnered with a straw hat! If a cowgirl boot isn’t calling your name this summer, don’t fret. Any worn in leather boot can act just as well. And for those whose opinions are on the cusp about cowgirl boots, all I can say is try them out. Pick a cute color, put on a long cascading skirt, any top that makes you feel like yourself, and spend a day in the boots of Miley’s double life.

#5. Take Long Drives

Pile into a car, put your windows down, and drown out any other sounds with whatever perfectly curated playlist you already have in mind, (highly recommend adding Crazier by Taylor Swift featured in Hannah Montana: The Movie. She recently played it live for the first time ever as a surprise song in Edinburgh on her Eras Tour.) Alone or with friends, driving at sunset until you can’t see the sun anymore and your throat is dry from the vocals leaving your mouth and flying out of your window always makes for a good night. Bask in the drive, and enjoy watching the moon replace the sun and the stars replace the clouds as you cruise down the winding roads.

#6. Find Your Own Blue Jeans

Finding your own Blue Jeans is pertinent to a Miley Stewart Summer. For those not familiar with who Blue Jeans is, he is of course Miley Stewart's beloved horse, featured not only in the movie but in the show Hannah Montana. Take yourself and some friends to an animal farm, ride a horse, or maybe even take up goat yoga! Whatever it is, surround yourself with many furry friends.

#7. Put Your Toes in the Grass

Other than the simple steps like finding a pair of overalls, spending time with furry friends, and spending time with loved ones, at the forefront of the ‘Miley Stewart Summer’ is spending time in nature. Step outside, let the humidity curl your hair, the mosquitoes bite at your ankles, and the summer breeze brush past your cheeks. Marvel at the nature around you in whichever way suits you best.

#8. Don’t Lose Sight of the Little Things

Lastly, on our list is to remain attentive and grateful. Appreciating the little things like taking a drive, marveling at nature, or being with loved ones stays at the core of a Miley Stewart Summer. Getting in touch with those precious moments of nostalgia and allowing time to slow down is encouraged. The little things are the ones you are going to remember.

You’re on your way to executing the Miley Stewart Summer. Focusing on yourself and detaching this summer will allow and reconnect with aspects of yourself that may have become lost over time. And remember: Your summer does not need to look like this one. The Miley Stewart Summer is about feeling, and as long as you have that, you’ll always find your way back home. Your Miley Stewart Summer motto is taken from none other than Travis Brody, character from  Hannah Montana: The Movie, who says to Miley Stewart herself, “Life’s a climb, but the view is great.”
