Your Runway to the Polls

Vogue kicks off fashion week by marching for democracy and mixing fashion with civic participation.
On September 6th, Vogue and the CFDA kicked off New York Fashion Week by teaming up and marching full speed ahead into this upcoming, fundamental 2024 election. This march was called Fashion For Our Future in hopes of “raise(ing) awareness, offer(ing) accessible resources, and encourage(ing) the importance of participating in our democracy,” taken from the CFDA themselves.
Fashion giants and Political figures joined together in Midtown Manhattan adorned in custom “Fashion For Our Future,” tees and dresses designed by Zac Posen himself alongside his team at Old Navy. Designers like “...Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Thom Browne, Diane von Furstenberg, and Tommy Hilfiger,” were seen marching the streets. Other industry names, none other than Anna Wintour, famous models over the years, as well as various retailers, workers, influencers and students showed up for democracy. Amongst the crowd, was first lady, Dr. Jill Biden.
At the scene, nonprofit and nonpartisan group I Am a Voter was there to get as many participants to register to vote as possible.
Why is this important?
These are unprecedented times, and this election holds consequences for our future. If fashion is showing up (and might I add looking good), so should you. There is power in our vote and there is power in these industries that drive our economy, such as the fashion industry. Having your voice heard is equally a part of the fashion industry and of democracy.
With November 5th creeping around the corner, it is all hands on deck. Register to vote here, and wear your “I voted!” sticker in style with the rest of us.
